G E N E R A L :

Born in the Netherlands and raised in Princeton, New Jersey, and in Honolulu, Bill Henthorn now makes his home in San Francisco.

He has founded a number of businesses, including a marketing consulting firm. Active in the community, he is founder and chair of a California nonprofit corporation. Bill has been an active speaker and leader in Toastmasters International, and led 700 San Francisco members. He's a graduate of Punahou School, the largest independent school in the United States, and of the University of California at Berkeley, where he holds a B.A. in Economics.

He enjoys creating and leading organizations, meeting people, photographing nature, collecting books, coins, and stamps, reading, thinking, writing, listening, communicating, inhaling San Francisco's architecture and drinking its misty orange sunsets ...

... and bodysurfing Oahu's dangerous Sandy Beach shore break in Honolulu:

C O M M U N I T Y :

In August 1999, Bill joined Toastmasters International. He led 700 members in 25 downtown San Francisco clubs as a division governor, achieving #1 division membership growth and #1 division educational completions.

Prior to that, he served as president of one of his Toastmasters clubs, Rhino Toastmasters Club. He was recognized in 2000 as #2 Membership Recruiter among 3500 members.

Between his 3 clubs, he has held 6 of 7 officer positions, each a number of times. He served as the founding club mentor to Main Street Maniacs, designed their award-winning website, and mentored division governors, area governors, club presidents and other officers, and new members throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

His Toastmasters writing contributions have appeared in publications in Germany, New Zealand, Canada, the US, and on a number of websites.

Bill has contributed his time for general community services, and somehow seems to end up focusing on sweaty, muscle-building "unskilled" physical labor in supporting food:
  • Honolulu: The Hawaii Foodbank (a ... foodbank)

  • San Francisco: The Haight Ashbury Food Project (soup kitchen feeding 400 people Monday through Thursday)
He generally avoids community activities such as picking up trash, seeing a better use of everyone's time by "manipulating" people into not creating trash. In fact, he wrote a book about this: Actions Have Consequences. After all, what leads us to pollute and destroy our own environment? (Even animals don't do this.)
